Now entering its fourth year, this summer will see Robinson College host the Better Learning Conference 2019 in Cambridge, UK, from 2-3 July. The conference brings together educational professionals from around the world to discuss topical issues, share knowledge, ideas and expertise and experience our Better Learning approach firsthand.
Building on the success of last year, we are inviting leaders and managers to gain insights and practical ideas for enhancing success in their institution. At this two day event you can learn more about:
- Strengthening your teacher team
- A curriculum for the 21st century
- Managing technological change
The conference is a great opportunity to share knowledge and learn from key influencers in education and research.
So what are some of this year’s Better Learning topics?
Drawing on international research and practice, David Weston‘s Unleashing Great Teaching talk focuses on how we can make every school into an organisation where every teacher can learn, develop and improve every year. Lenise Butler explores how we prepare our institutions, our teachers and our departments for the implementation of new technologies in her Technology and Change Management talk.
Other speakers include Chris Sowton who will look at The Critical Thinking Ecosystem: Why it’s everybody’s responsibility, Sarah Mercer talking on The Foundations of Engagement: A positive classroom culture and Scott Thornbury who will close the Tuesday sessions by discussing What’s the Latest Method? – offering his own opinion on what constitutes a ‘good method’.
On the Wednesday we have Dr Hayo Reinders who will introduce us to Educational Data Mining and Learning Analytics for Language Teaching in which he explores how these may be relevant to improving learning and teaching and can enable new types of (classroom) research. Rigor From the Get Go! Embedding skills for the 21st century in curricula will be presented by Betsy Parish and Kate Brierton, and Dr Christina Gkonou will host a talk on Cultivating Wellbeing in English Language Teaching: Supporting teachers to flourish and thrive. They will provide practical strategies to support the wellbeing of teachers in school, for use both inside and outside the classroom.
The final keynote will be given by David Crystal; The Future of Englishes. He will explore the question ‘What are the consequences of the global status of English for the future development of the language?’
With more talks scheduled (see full programme) and a fantastic range of optional sessions such as early morning runs, a mindfulness class and an innovation showcase, this conference will be inspirational, informative and fun!
