And so it begins! We start our journey through the Cambridge Life Competencies by looking at an area that lends itself to creating a more positive classroom environment than any other: Collaboration. If you’re new to the Cambridge Life Competencies for Teens podcast, this 7-part series features a range of experts in English language learning and gives you some techniques and tips to develop vital skills that your learners need as they approach adulthood.
In this opening episode we hear from author and teacher Dan Vincent, and Delia Kidd from our Language Research Team about developing your students’ collaborative skills. This does not necessarily just mean putting students into groups and having them go through an exercise together. Collaboration represents a set of skills that we, as adults, need to contribute to our communities (be it a large or a small one!). This involves taking and sharing responsibility for our roles as members of any group, listening and responding constructively to each other and working together towards a common goal.
These skills, however easy or difficult we might find them to exhibit, are absolutely vital to develop in our teenage learners. It’s these skills that will enable them to show a willingness and ability to adapt and reach solutions as an employee of a company, a member of a local community or a citizen of a country. This episode offers you a range of practical ways to help your learners with these skills.
